15th Annual Soroptimist Garden Show

            Self-guided tour of eight private gardens in Schenectady County. Rain or shine. Tickets must be presented at the 1st garden, addresses are on the back of the tickets. Once tickets have been redeemed you will receive a brochure with directions. Raffle includes various garden items. Plants will also be for sale on the tour.

Juneteenth Celebration!

               Juneteenth is a community-wide celebration of the end of slavery in AmericaThe Hamilton Hill Arts Center brought the celebration to the Capital District and has been organizing the free celebration for 18 years.  Friday, at Vale Cemetery we open the celebration with a speaker, Chief Neil Clark, discussing the Pinksterfest, a historic black celebration dating back to slavery times.  The program ends with a free ice cream social.  On Saturday, in Central Park, there will be entertainment by local youth and adult performers in all categories.  The Opening act at the stage will be Restored, a male gospel choir; the main act will be Ill Funk a local contemporary band.  The Schenectady High School Jazz Band will also perform.  There will be dance workshops in the pavilion, pony rides for the kids and Double Dutch.  Food and crafts vendors and a health fare will also be part of the festivities.  This celebration is made possible with funds from the Schenectady County Initiative, Price Chopper and Rivers Casino among others.

Circles of Mercy Gala

            “A Taste of Mercy” Gala is the organization’s signature fundraising event, that is held annually in June.   It is a wonderful reception featuring foods, refreshments and music.  The theme for this year’s celebration is “Continuing the Mercy Tradition”.  During the event we will present our annual Hope and Hospitality Award to – Sister Patricia Lynch, RSM, Principal of Blessed Sacrament School, Albany NY, for her efforts in supporting the mission of mercy at Circles, as well as her 50 years of Mercy education.  In addition during the gala event, the Sister Gail Rieth Volunteer Award, which we established in her memory, will be presented to the Southern Rensselaer County Rotary Club, for their ongoing volunteer partnership with Circles of Mercy and its many programs.

The “A Taste of Mercy” Gala is a Celebration of Catherine’s Circle of Friends, having the theme of “Continuing the Mercy Tradition…”

            The William and Estelle Golub Family Pool and Tennis Club is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! The pool opened last weekend (Memorial Day weekend) and this marks the 30th year that local residents have enjoyed the outdoor facilities!

Regular guests include Representatives from the Animal Protective Foundation; faculty from the various area institutions of higher learning discussing health and community issues; Representatives from City, County and State agencies; actors and directors from the theREP, Proctors Theatre, Circle Theatre Players at Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Schenectady Civic Players, Schenectady Light Opera, Albany Civic Players, Classic Theater Guild, and many other area theatrical groups; Tax Specialists from the Internal Revenue Service (during tax season); Representatives from Schenectady County Library; area museums including miSci & ESAM and many area non-profit organizations. We also try to highlight local artists and musicians whenever possible.
